“Whether the coming economic crisis will be deep or shallow is left to be seen....”
– Wow - this is an excellent and concise overview of what’s happening to our economic system - written 6 months ago.  I suppose the writing was on the wall for quite some time.  I just wish I had read this back then. Douglas Rushkoff » Riding Out the Credit Collapse

Schadenfreude
As noted over at Wikipedia, Schadenfreude has been defined as “largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another which is cognized as trivial and/or appropriate.”  This definition comes from Theodore Adorno, a philosopher and theologist I had never heard of until I visited the Wikipedia page.  But that’s beside the point. I like this definition much better than WordNet’s...

Why Experience Matters →
I don’t always agree with David Brooks.  Most of the time I don’t, in fact.  But he is a Republican writer I respect because he usually seems to think for himself.  In today’s NY Times Op-Ed piece, he all but endorses Obama. “Sarah Palin has not been engaged in national issues, does not have a repertoire of historic patterns and, like President Bush, she seems to...

Truthier Tax Cut Charts →
Chartjunk brings us a much clearer look at the differences between the McCain and Obama tax cut plans.  I suppose if you are making more than $600,000 per year you should be concerned about an Obama presidency.  But if you are among the vast majority of Americans who make less than $110,000 per year, you’re going to be better off under Obama.

No Gas For Me
Gas prices were as high as $4.75 / gallon today.  And that’s if you could find it.  Every gas station I went to was dry.

Locomotivity
I like this word.  It has an interesting definition that our man Webster wrote in 1913.  The definition remains the same in the 1928 dictionary and I don’t think the word appears in any current abridged dictionary. Locomotivity \Lo`co*mo*tiv”i*ty, n. [Cf. F. locomotivit[‘e].] The power of changing place. [1913 Webster]

Practice
I like the idea that you “practice” yoga.  You don’t DO it, you practice it.  Each day, you strive towards strength, balance, awareness, calm, determination and acceptance.  But these aren’t confined within the walls of the yoga studio.  Yoga is not just the bendy moves.  It’s about being a part of the world around you fully.  Practice asana.  But also practice...

It will be interesting to see what Google does here.  I’m excited about another standards-compliant browser coming onto the market.  And the V8 Javascript Virtual Machine looks very interesting.
